Mathura – The sacred city




Mathura a holy place in Uttar Pradesh located 50 kilometres north of Agra was anciently an economic hub. The place is one of the most religious tourism spot and one of the seven cities (Sapt Puri) considered by the holy Hindus, as it is believed to be the birthplace of lord Krishna born in the Yadu dynasty. The city is one of the heritage cities of India. Also, the city is mentioned in the oldest Indian epic, the Ramayana. The holy place is well connected to major cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Varanasi etc. Also, to rest of Uttar Pradesh and India, the city is well connected by road. As of now, Mathura does not have any airport, though, it was proposed in 2012. 

Mathura is the holy city for Hinduism which is the world’s third largest religion Vrindavan, Barsana, Gokul, Govardhan etc. are some of the famous villages of the city, holding great religious importance. Mathura consists of many more such places that hold religious as well as historic importance. Vrindavan is known as the twin city of Mathura. Mathura refinery present here is one of the biggest oil refineries in Asia. Also, the major contributors of the city include textile industries and ornament manufacturers. Hence, along with being a holy place, Mathura holds equal industrial importance too.
